The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies have chosen the CX2-1, which has been named "Sandcrawler", to be the recipient of The International Architecture Award 2011, the highest and most prestigious building awards program that recognize cutting-edge design. Sandcrawler was chosen amongst a record number of entries from important architecture firms globally.
Designed by Andrew Bromberg, Executive Director at Aedas, Sandcrawler –named after the famous vehicles on the Star Wars films- will be the regional headquarters for LucasFilm in Singapore, currently being constructed at the Fusionopolis high-tech park. The iconic building will feature a 100-seat theatre and state-of-the-art office space and production facilities.
“We are honored to have been recognized with this award; our team delivered not just an innovative design but also one that emphasizes the civic qualities that will enrich the built environment” commented Andrew Bromberg.
In October 2011, the project will be exhibited together with other awarded buildings at the symposium “The City and the World” in Buenos Aires in parallel with the 13th International Architecture Biennial.
